called “Grand Prix of epidemiology” by The New York Times, this study examines more than 350 variables of health and nutrition with surveys of 6,500 adults over 2,500 counties of China and Taiwan, and finally shows the relationship between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes and cancer. While revealing that proper nutrition can have a dramatic effect on reducing and reversing these diseases and the interruption of obesity, which calls the text. . . more>> a>
The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health
T. Colin Campbell has made a career of challenging the conventional wisdom on nutrition, and this book is the culmination of his work. His integrity, brilliance, and unwavering courage shine through every page.
The main focus of this book is that most studies, the food that we hear in the media are bad because of what the author terms “scientific reductionism. In other words, they try to identify the effects of a single nutrient manufactured in isolation from all other aspects of diet and lifestyle.
This is the “gold standard” for clinical trials in the pharmaceutical world, it simply does not when it comes to nutrition. As the Western diet extremely high in fat and protein is high compared to most parts of the world, studies to replace the light variations in the regime (eg, adding a few grams of fiber or skim milk for whole milk) to compare mortality are those who smoke five packs of cigarettes a day against those who smoked only 97 cigarettes per day.
Campbell’s research, he describes in a very accessible and attractive way, has two great advantages over the typical nutritional study. First, it is the study of China itself – a massive series of snapshots of the relationship between diet and disease in more than 100 villages throughout China. The rate of the disease vary widely from region to region, and Campbell and his research partners (including some of the most important scientists and epidemiologists in the world) carefully correlated these differences with different diets communities.
> This is not lazy search “inquiry” – those researchers can not rely on memory of their subjects to determine what they ate and drank. The researchers also observed buying patterns and took blood samples for cross-validation of all data.
This is the second part of the research methodology of the incredible Campbell, his denial of any knowledge without returning to his lab and know exactly how it works accepted. In other words, we discover in the study of China not only how, exactly how the food we eat can either promote or hinder our health.
The book is part intellectual biography / Hero’s Journey (although Campbell is always wonderfully humble show – there is no trace of complacency, just a deep gratitude for what he seen), a nutrition guide part (the most honest and flawless show ever), and a party. The final section leaves no sacred cow, and gave the names of names! food industry, government, science, Campbell quietly on a cover-up of the truth so widespread, nutrition and insidious, that all citizens should be furious.
I have a doctorate in health education and a master’s degree in public health – and I can honestly say that this is not a book rocked my world like this. Anyone interested in health – their own or their family, friends or community – must be read to share this book. Campbell began a revolution. Skip this work at your own risk.

I like juicy steaks, tasty cheese and big bowls of ice. I love eating in restaurants. And I do not eat the operation and the consequences of our industrial food complex. But I do not need to do these things, do not get more because I read the study of China. Like Neo in The Matrix, you can either take the blue pill and believe what you want to take the red pill and you the real world, we are exposed to life-the study of China, is the red pill.
This is a fascinating book on capitalism, politics and human behavior, that the food drives. It is also frighteningly say about the health consequences of a successful company “food. I am not a scientist, I do not know if it was science. But I have ten years of work as a lawyer for the government USDA guidelines on food and was considered by the political influence and acceptance of what he calls scientific reductionism surprise. I worked for a man who has lived and worked until the 100 years, and he had a very similar diet, recommended by the study of China is not: vegan nor vegetarian, but mostly on plants and whole foods instead of animal testing for determining staple food. Then I found this book very convincing – in fact, even convincing. I am afraid that I eat healthy now and that is good for the long term … but I do not, as I used to be.

This is a fantastic book loaded with information to open more eyes, the kind of book that I read later. I feel if you do not convert to a diet of whole plant, after reading this book, I do not think anyone will convince you. . . . the evidence is overwhelming.
For my story, I was on statins for high cholesterol for over 6 years. . . . and a moderate to high, dass Over the years, my cholesterol is gradually increasing and my total cholesterol was just over 300 and triglycerides in the mid-200 without statins. The moderate / high dose statin brought my cholesterol in the field from top to bottom 190 200. Over the years I have tried to get out of medication and was told to try to eat a diet low in fat, not eating shrimp, lobster, etc. I went to statins, the regime has tried for several months and none of it helped. . . . actually my cholesterol were higher. . . . I was told it is hereditary, there is nothing you can do, and I should take statins and I’d be on it indefinitely. Well, after reading the book “The China Study”, there are a number of paragraphs in this great book to mention the most important factor causing high cholesterol food hiding something animal protein. The only time I ate meat like fish and chicken and small portions. . . . Beef and perhaps a few times a year, if at all. I must say I was skeptical and thought, what I have to lose, so I went to Whole Foods diet herbal (vegan) that Dr. Campbell suggests in the book. I started in November last year (when I was among the statins), and I had my cholesterol and last summer was surprised at the result. . . . My total cholesterol dropped from more than 300 without statins, 200 190 / Low Moderate to high makes statin, and 175 without statins on the vegan diet with good levels of LDL and HDL. I suspect that the next revision, it is even lower. Also, my triglycerides dropped from 200 in mid 64! All because of giving up animal products. . . . surprising. Now I wonder. . . . Why am I not always do so by a doctor that I saw over the years? Even if a person does not waive animal products altogether as I want, what about this board at least an option for a patient. . . . . and let the patient decide? What a concept!
Of course, I feel that my cholesterol and triglycerides than the tip of the iceberg, because my health has improved diet herbal. . . . the only regret?. . . . I would like to start a vegan diet earlier. . . . I’ve never had so much energy and really never felt so good. . . . seriously. . . This is not an exaggeration.
Like all the skeptics out there to harsh criticism, I say, but everyone is ignoring the evidence at your own risk. I have a lot of my friends and family who are sick with what I feel in this book is proven by numerous studies to nothing more than a poor diet in most cases, most of them are the search for a magic pill to save his point of view. . . . and the old argument that it is on standby every gene does not seem to hold water much either. . . . again demonstrated by studies in the book of knowledge.
My friends, family and colleagues how I eat now and I wonder why I want to live forever. . . . this is not the problem. . . . The quality of life rather than quantity of life. . . not that what we should all be after?

On January 21, 2006, the day after I made eating guidelines in the study of China began, I was 63 years old, 5 feet 10 1 / 2 inches, weighs 213 pounds and a BMI 130 on the first rung of obesity Although I do not like it. The first week I lost 5 pounds, 2 Five books, five books of the 3rd, 4th £ 4, then 3, 2, 1, until I lost 35 pounds in three months, then stabilized at 178th around £ My blood pressure rose from an average of over 91,141 on average, over 81 120 My total cholesterol dropped from 200 to 127 I do not feel I’m on a slow decline from 50 years, but I feel happy and alive today. Like when I was a child. Today is August 22, 2006, and I know that this is how I eat and live in time. For me, it’s a matter of survival, physically and mentally. I have about 20 copies of the book to people who interest me, including a waitress in an Outback Steak House country in Virginia. It was in May, she was worried about her father and wanted to get something for Father’s Day. By the way Houses are a great place to get real delicious vegetables. It is my true story. By the way, I thank Dr. Campbell and Thomas Campbell.

It is on nutrition and chronic diseases (heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc.). A highly readable book, the medical perspective and a social perspective.
shock # 1: proteins in milk promotes cancer. Incredible? There is evidence in animals and observed in the human population under study. The book presents the results of many researchers, including a major study on nutrition and disease history in China by Dr. Campbell (hence the title of China Study) conducted.
The author grew up on a farm milk (cows, when he was a boy), was well educated, highly regarded and well-funded scientists at Cornell and adopted development at the national nutrition policy. It found convincing evidence, based on decades of research (funded by the NIH, etc.) that the transition to a plant foods may increase the risk of killer in the United States to reduce (cardiovascular disease, cancer, etc.) and even stop and reverse the trend!.
Ha!
So basically, it advocates a vegetarian diet (the type of food, no pasta, sugar and cookie-type).
This is not good news for many people. But I was really his book, to read and how useful it was, all excited to be surprised by his astonishing findings suspect. He was cautious and prudent in early in the course of his research. He asked: “Am I mad? after discovering the protein intake was positively correlated with liver cancer among children in the Philippines, where he went to “eat” by putting more protein in their diet to promote. He then said follow-up research he conducted (all peer-reviewed and funded by NIH and other reputable organizations).
He also spent about 50% of the text a strong influence on the industry and the medical profession itself, that to avoid the results of research, such as public outreach. For example, Cleveland Clinic, the renowned heart center in the treatment of diseases, some doctors executives and trustees, heart problems himself, go see Dr. Esselstyn. Dr. Esselstyn has been a great surgeon in the world ranking. However, these patients have Mr. Esselstyn not be regarded for his surgical skills, but for its treatment of foods derived from plants. Dr. Esselstyn, despite all the awards he has during his career (in fact, the high salaries in the department of general surgery for over ten years!), He came to realize that without a regime change , not all operations and drugs prolong patients’ lives, not reduced their chances of heart trouble, after these treatments. He conducted a study of 18 patients after a low-fat diet herbal. Your heart disease is gone! But he could not the hospital, to use his program for the treatment of patients with heart. So he had his own practice. Then the words come out and, apparently, managers and trustees physician knew that this is a better option than surgery – many of them sought the help of Dr. Esselstyn. Yet they can not program CD Esselstyn at the Cleveland Clinic!
Wow! This is something, huh?
But think about it, it makes sense. Doctors are human, they must pay cash for houses, said the education of children, etc. If you do so only by consuming a diet true all-vegetarian, can avoid people, and diseases reverse cardiac and various cancers, the doctor can not, then their skills and therefore their purchasing power are worthless. I would not be happy if I was a specialist in heart surgery or cancer.
